Bob Shaw
Glasgow Print Studio, Ground Floor Gallery
Exhibition Runs: 5th – 28th April
Preview: Thursday 4th April 6pm-8pm (Trongate 103, 1st Thurs)
Bob Shaw's work is full of symbolism and dark humour: central themes deriving from mythology and often dealing with the absurdity of human ambition and its failings. Bulbous and spiky, his unusual and sometimes grotesque characters gather and congregate in carousels, cafes and showgrounds; they journey, play, build absurd machines and generally revel in the absurd industry of life.
Based in Kirkwall, Orkney, Bob Shaw is a painter and printmaker and member of Glasgow Print Studio. He helped found Soulisquoy Printmakers in Orkney and for a number of years was chair of the Pier Arts Centre. His work has been exhibited in solo shows at the Pier Arts Centre, Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh Printmakers and Peacock Printmakers, as well as group exhibitions in Finland and Yugoslavia.
