The View From The Train

The View From The Train brings together artists spanning several generations with a shared interest in the landscape in all its guises. The exhibition will include prints and paintings responding to the sea, the land and the city.

The title of the show comes from a collection of essays by the British filmmaker, writer and lecturer Patrick Keiller. For Keiller, the meaning of a landscape “resides only in the imagination of whoever looks at it.” This general meditation from The Poetic Experience of Townscape and Landscape being central in what makes his perspective compelling;

The desire to transform the world is not uncommon, and there are a number of ways of fulfilling it. One of these is by adopting a certain subjectivity, aggressive or passive, deliberately sought or simply the result of a mood, which alters experience of the world, and so transforms it.
