John Taylor

John Taylor
Glasgow Print Studio, Ground Floor Gallery
Exhibition Runs: 2nd May – 1st June

Preview: Thursday 1st May (Trongate 103, 1st Thurs)

The ebb here is on the River Clyde, the conduit which brought untold wealth into the second city of the Empire: Glasgow. Part of this cornucopia would have been stored in the warehouses depicted. These warehouses and their reflections have gone but live on in this print. Hopefully the tide has turned and the decline is past, and Scotland, Glasgow and its famous river will all flourish again.

John Taylor was born in Darvel, Ayrshire in 1936. He gained a Diploma of Art in Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art in 1959 and Higher Diploma of Art at Birmingham Polytechnic 1972-73 where he learned to screenprint.

Taylor is represented in many collections including Aberdeen Art Gallery, Maclaurin Art Gallery Ayr, Birmingham Art Gallery, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Hunterian Print Collection, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Dick Institute Kilmarnock, The British Museum, The Fleming Collection and the Contemporary Art Society.
