Lilian Ptáček

Lilian Ptáček
Glasgow Print Studio Ground Floor Gallery
Exhibition Runs: 01 - 31 October 2020

This new series, Without Tide, combines screenprint, monoprint and papermaking to explore how objects accumulate in landscapes. The focus is an aerial view, where collage is used to create composite rock pools in which luxury goods are situated as fossils, artifacts and creatures. A small selection of works adds to this fictional landscape by contemplating the multiple histories that accrue from these settings.

Lilian Ptáček works in an intuitive manner with printmaking to create works that layer marks, imagery and washes of colour. Ptáček recycles test prints as material for papermaking to adopt more sustainable approaches in her practice:

"As the paper is setting in the mould, I experiment with embossment and ink transfer from collage material; the resulting ghost images are a kind of fossilised record."

In 2015 Lilian graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with a BA (hons) in Fine Art, Painting and Printmaking. Since then, she has developed a practice across printmaking, collage and installation, often working collaboratively on projects with artists, community groups and young people. She has been recipient of residencies at Hospitalfield (Scotland) and The Lighthouse Works, (USA). Lilian has worked as an Art Educator for numerous organisations and is currently working for The University of Edinburgh as a tutor for Access to Creative Education in Scotland (ACES). Her work has been shown in London, Madrid, Prague and New York.
